One of the most prominent scholars in Sri Lanka, former Ambassador to Thailand, Cambodia and Laos, Emeritus Professor of Sinhala, Desamanya J. B. Disanayake, conducted a fruitful lecture on what is Sinhala language and its practical application to the contemporary usage of linguistics, at Security Force Headquarters (East) on 12 February 2017, on the invitation of Commander SF (E), Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc. During the program, Professor J. B. Dissanayake explained his invaluable experience with the long teaching career of over 40 years, as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Colombo and the Head of the Department of Sinhala at University of Colombo as well as an author of numerous books on linguistics, culture and history. Further, Professor J. B. Dissanayake emphasized what we should know about our language, its dialect varieties, history, evolutionary stages, classical literature and its variety of styles.\r\nMore than 1000 Offr/ORs representing all under command formations attended the event which was very educative and interesting.\r\n
