In a vibrant tribute to the sacred occasion of “Mahindagamanaya,” the District Secretariat Office Ampara,Ampara District Merchant Union, and the 24 Infantry Division actively participated in the Poson Lantern Exhibition. Under the esteemed guidance of the General Officer Commanding 24 infantry Division Major General H C L Galappaththi RSP USP, the free food stall aligned with the Poson Lantern Exhibition.
The events, held to honor the historic arrival of Arahant Mahinda Thero to Sri Lanka and the introduction of Buddhism, brought together thousands from across the district in a celebration of light, generosity, and unity. The Poson Lantern Exhibition stunning array of traditional and modern lanterns, illuminating the town with spiritual symbolism and aesthetic brilliance. Community groups, schoolchildren, and various institutions took part in creating lanterns that reflected the rich Buddhist heritage and the story of “Mahindagamanaya”.
Rice “Dansala” held on 12 and 13 June 2025 at the town hall premises. Over ten thousand people from all communities in the Ampara district gathered to partake in this noble event, which offered free meals to all attendees as a mark of selfless service and religious devotion.
The initiative stood as a shining example of inter-institutional collaboration and communal harmony, reflecting the deep cultural values cherished by the people of Sri Lanka. The 24 Infantry Division’s dedicated involvement, along with the unwavering support from civil institutions, ensured the events were both meaningful and memorable.
As the lanterns lit up the Ampara skyline and hearts were warmed by acts of giving, the Poson celebrations of 2025 left an indelible mark on the community, fostering unity and peace in the true spirit of Mahindagamanaya.
