A NEW LOOK TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE HEADQUARTERS 23 DIVISION
A newly constructed Mural depicting the historical ancient Battle of Danture in Sri Lanka was declared open at the entrance of 23 Division on 25 December 2015 by the Commander, Security Forces East, Major General N J Walgama RSP VSV USP ndu psc on the invitation of General Officer Commanding 23 Division, Major General D D U K Hettiarrachchi RSP USP ndu psc.\r\n \r\nAccording to the Mahawansa, the Sinhalese Army under King Wimaladharmasuriya 1 (1592 - 1604) completely annihilated the Portuguese troops in the field of Danture and secured the power of the Kandyan Kingdom, which was a turning point in the natives struggle for the country\'s freedom. It is believed that the above mentioned Mural at the entrance of the 23 Division would be a source of inspiration to the Army troops serving in the Eastern theater of Sri Lanka. It is also learnt that this is the first such Mural made in any of the Army establishments in Sri Lanka which depicts the valour of great Kings in ancient Sri Lanka.\r\n \r\nThe Mural was constructed by HQ 23 Division troops under the guidance and supervision of Mr D.P. Piyarathne Dasanayake of Giriulla.\r\n
