Brigadier A I Marasinghe RWP RSP of the Gajaba Regiment (GR), the newly-appointed General Officer Commanding 24 Division assumed duties yesterday (11 July 2019) at his office at the Headquarters, 24 Division Malwatta Ampara.
A series of formalities were held at the Headquarters 24 Division in connection with the welcome ceremony of the newly-appointed General Officer Commanding. He received a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour presented by the troops of 8 Battalion of Sri Lanka National Guard in conformity with military formalities after his arrival there.
Invocation of blessings of the Maha Sangha, religious rites and rituals got underway at the office of the GOC and chanting of Seth Pirith. Brigadier Athula Marasinghe placed his signature on an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of his new appointment at the auspicious time while chanting was on.
He afterwards planted a mango sapling in the premises to signify his inauguration of the office of the 24 Division and addressed the troops.
Several Senior Officers attended for the event including Commander 242 Brigade, Commander 241 Brigade, Colonel Admin & Quartering 24 Division, Colonel General Staff 24 Division and Colonel Volunteer Coordinator 24 Division.
