Major General G P P Kulatilaka ndc assumed duties as the 29thGeneral Officer Commanding of the 23 Infantry Division on 23 June 2025. The ceremony commenced in the morning with religious rites, rituals, and formal military ceremonials.
The ceremony's first segment took place at Headquarters 23 Infantry Division premises, where the troops of the Infantry Division presented military honours. Major General G P P Kulatilaka ndc then reviewed the Guard Turnout presented in his honour. Subsequently, he was escorted to the saluting dais to receive the Guard of Honour from the troops of the 7th Battalionthe Gamunu Watch.
Following the military formalities, a brief ceremony had been arranged to invoke blessings on his new appointment at the General Officer Commanding’s office. Religious dignitaries from all religions blessed him for his new role, and he symbolically accepted the office by signing an official document.
As part of the ceremonial activities, Major General G P PKulatilakandcplanted a Mango sapling and posed for a few group photographs with field commanders and his staff. He also spared a few minutes to talk with soldiers who were presented to greet him during all rankstea.
Later, the General Officer Commanding received a briefing about the Area of Responsibility (AOR) during a staff briefing.
Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers of Divisional Headquarters, Commanding Officers, Officers, and Other Rankers attended the ceremony to pay their respect to the newly appointed General Officer Commanding of the 23 Infantry Division.
