On the concept of General Officer Commanding 23 Infantry Division, Major General P S Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc, Staff Officers and Troops of Headquarters 23 Infantry Division organized a Displaying of Vesak Lantern in parallel with celebration of Vesak Festival on 12 and 13 May 2025.
As the first event of the day, all Staff Officers &Troops of 23 Infantry Division and Battalion Training School – PUNANI attended the Bodhi Pooja and Dharma Desanawaon Monday 12evening at the Temple of HQ 23 Infantry Division. Venerable Susirigama Sangharakkhitha Thero, Chief Incumbent at Sewanapitiya Susirigama Sama Temple, conducted a sermon for the troops and invoked merits on fallen War Heroes and blessings on disabled soldiers, serving Army personnel, Civilians and their family members.
After the Bodhi Puja the Buns with Milk Coffee Dansal was opened from 1900 hour to 2200 hour for the people living in the area and passengers travelling on the POLONNARUWA- BATTICALOA road. A large crowd, nearly 3000 people from adjacent villages in PUNANI and passengers attended. All Staff Officers and Other Ranks of the HQ 23 Infantry Division participated in the event. People in the area & passengers appreciated the event in numerous ways. A Vesak Zone consisting of colour ful Vesak lanterns created by all Sections/Branches of the Headquarters23 Infantry Division and the Battalion Training School were also displayed for the public.
