On the concept of General Officer Commanding 23 Infantry Division Major General Shewanth Kulathunge RWP RSP USP psc, staff officers and troops of Headquarters 23 Infantry Division organized a “Celebration of Vesak Festival” on 05 May 2023.
As the first event of the day, all staff officers & troops attended the Bodhi Pooja and Dharma Desanawa on Friday (05) Morning at the Temple of HQ 23 Inf Div. Venerable Susirigama Sangharakkhitha Thero, Chief Incumbent at Sewanapitiya Susirigama Sama Temple conducted a sermon for the troops and invoked merits on fallen War Heroes and blessings on disabled soldiers, serving Army personnel and their family members.
After the Bodhi Puja the Sago Dansal was opened from 1000 hours to 1500 hours for the people living in the area and passengers travel on PLN - BCO road. A large crowd, nearly 2000 people from adjacent villages in Punani and passengers attended. All staff officers and Other Ranks of the HQ 23 Inf Div participated in the event. People in the area & passengers appreciated the event in numerous ways. On the same day evening, the colorful Vesak Lantern that was crafted by the troops of 23 Inf Div SLEME Fd Wksp, ESR Sqn, SC Sqn, FOD and BTS Punani was switched on lights.
