On the concept of General Officer Commanding 23 Infantry Division, Major General P S Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc, Staff Officers and Troops of Headquarters 23 Infantry Division organised a Rice Dansal, Replica of Mihinthalawa and Poson Lantern in parallel with celebration of Pson Festival on 10 June 2025.
As the first event of the day,all Staff Officers &Troops of 23 Infantry Division and Battalion Training School – PUNANI attended the Bodhi Pooja and Dharma Desanawaon Tuesday 10 evening at the Temple of Headquarters 23 Infantry Division.Venerable Susirigama Sangharakkhitha Thero, Chief Incumbent at Sewanapitiya Susirigama Sama Temple, conducted a sermon for the troops and invoked merits on fallen War Heroes and blessings on disabled soldiers, serving Army personnel, Civilians and their family members.
After the Bodhi Puja the lighting of the Replica of Mihinthalawa and Rice Dansal was opened from 1930 hour to 2300 hour for the people living in the area and Pilgrims travelling on the POLONNARUWA - BATTICALOA road. A large crowd, nearly 2000 people from adjacent villages in PUNANI and Pilgrims attended for the Dansala.All Staff Officers and Other Ranks of the Headquarters 23 Infantry Division participated in the event.A Poson Zone consisting of colourful Poson lanterns created by the Battalion Training School and 3 (V) VIR Battalion were also displayed for the public.
