Headquarters 23 Infantry Division commemorated its 28th Anniversary on 23 July 2025, marking another significant milestone in its distinguished history. A series of commemorative events were organized under the guidance and participation of Major General G.P.P. Kulatilaka ndc, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Infantry Division.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, a number of religious observances were held on 22 July 2025, reflecting the multireligious fabric of the Division and fostering spiritual unity among its personnel. The events included.
Buddhist religious observances at the Divisional Temple.
Christian prayers conducted at St. Anthony’s Church, Mailanthenna, Punani.
Hindu rituals performed at the Hindu Kovil, Punani.
On 23 July 2025, in accordance with military tradition, the General Officer Commanding graced the formal Anniversary Day ceremony. Upon his arrival at the venue, he reviewed the Guard Turnout and received the General Salute from the Guard of Honour presented by troops of the 7th Battalion, the Gamunu Watch.
The formal proceedings included a group photograph, the planting of a ceremonial tree sapling, and an address by the General Officer Commanding to all Officers and Other Ranks, during which he commended the Division’s achievements and emphasized continued commitment to service and professionalism.
To conclude the day’s events, an All-Ranks lunch was hosted, attended by Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks in a spirit of camaraderie and unity.
In continuation of the celebratory activities, a friendly cricket encounter was conducted on 24 July 2025 at the Divisional Playground, further enhancing sprit and reinforcing bonds among all ranks of the Division.
