HANDING OVER SIRASA SPONSORED ARMY CONSTRUCTED TWO NEW HOMES TO NEEDY FAMILIES

On the request of MTV/MBC, 'Sirasa' Media Network through its 'Sirasa Niwasa Project - Phase 3' sought the Army technical and manpower assistance from Commander of Army for constructing two new houses for needy families in Medirigiriya and Ampara. As directed by Commander of Army, Commander Security Forces East Major General Channa Weerasuriya delegated the responsibility to troops of 4th Battalion Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and 11th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard under command to the Security Force Headquarters East to construct the two houses.

Security Force Headquarters East enabled the technically-skilled engineering and other troops to complete the project with funds and resources, made available by the 'Sirasa Niwasa'. Major General Channa Weerasuriya graced both the auspicious inaugural house-warmings as the Chief Guest, together with GOC 24 Division and Commander FMA (East) and the representatives Mrs Needra Weerasinghe and Mr Priyantha Wijesinghe of the MTV and MBC Network representing the 'Sirasa Niwasa' programme on Saturday (30).

After the miserable plight of poverty-stricken living condition of Mrs Malani Rupalatha of Medirigiriya and Mr Nishantha Senarath Bandara of Ampara were brought to the notice, the sponsors in order to mitigate the costs turned to the Army manpower and their construction skills for erection of these much-needed houses.

The day's Chief Guest and the sponsors at the auspicious minutes unveiled the plaques, joined oil-lamp lighting and milk-pot boiling rituals, together with beneficiaries while the recipient's relatives were looking on.

'Sirasa' Media Network officials, CCCA SFHQ (E) Commanding Officers of 4 SLASC and 11 SLNG, relatives of the family and well-wishers were associated with the day's event. The sponsors have been gifting such new homes for deserving families since of recent times in close co-operation with the support extended by Army troops.
