HANDING OVER OF RECONSTRUCTED AND FULLY COMPLETED HOUSE

S/R102690 Pte Dirona T belongs to 3rd Battalion Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps, a Tamil soldier who has enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army from the Akkarapattu area and presently she is performing her duties at 24 Infantry Division Headquarters. Tragedy struck when an unexpected fire engulfed her residence, resulting in its complete destruction of the house. This unfortunate incident left Pte Dirona T, her elderly grandfather, and grandmother in dire circumstances.

The guidance of Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, the General Officer Commanding 24 Infantry Division, and under the initiative, coordination, and supervision of Colonel LSDN Pathirathna RSP USP, the Commander 241 Infantry Brigade, along with the generous support from the Muslim and Tamil trade communities in Akkareipattu area, the house was rebuilt. The collective efforts of the 11th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard, along with the financial and material contributions worth of Rs. 842,754.00 from the mentioned communities, led to the successful reconstruction of the house. On the significant date of 20th August 2023, this restored dwelling was inaugurated by Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, who officially handed over the keys to Pte Dirona T and her grandmother. Alongside the house, they were also provided with essential household appliances to help them restart their lives.

Aliadiwemibu Divisional Secretary Mr. P. Papakaran and many local businessmen as well as local residents participated in this event and around 200 lunch parcels were distributed to the local residents who participated in this event. This heart-warming occasion highlights the strength found in collaboration and empathy, showcasing how diverse communities can unite to uplift and assist those who require support.
