In a vibrant display of unity and cultural harmony, the historic “Mahindagamanaya” in Ampara was illuminated by the enchanting Eastern Poson Dawn, an event organized by the GA office, government officials, representatives from the army, other sister services, and the police. The event, symbolizing the significance of Poson and Mahindagamanaya, brought together diverse communities to celebrate togetherness and shared heritage.
Under the guidance of Major General WLAC Perera RWP RSP USP, the GOC 24 Infantry Division, the army contributed 20 beautifully decorated lanterns to adorn the surroundings of Ampara Township. This collaborative effort reflected a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect among different societal sectors, emphasizing peace and inclusivity. The Eastern Poson Dawn commenced on the 21 June 2024, captivating the hearts of all who attended and will be terminated on the 26 June 2024. This event marked a historic milestone in the eastern province of Ampara, bringing together a multicultural community to celebrate diversity and promote interfaith dialogue.
The Eastern Poson Dawn not only honored the traditions of Poson and Mahindagamanaya but also provided an opportunity for individuals from different religious backgrounds to come together and share in the spirit of mutual understanding and respect. The Eastern Poson Dawn at Ampara stands as a testament to the power of cultural exchange and collective celebration.
The Deegawapiya Stupa Restoration Project was conducted in an Aloka Pujawa ceremony at the historic Deegawapiya Stupa on Poson Poya Day, marking the dawn of Eastern Poson on 21 June 2024. The event commemorates the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The project is grateful for the support of devotees, Buddhist organizations, and community members.
On 21 June 2024, a grand exhibition of sacred hair relics of the Supreme Lord Buddha was inaugurated at the Mahawapiya Temple in Ampara, following the Eastern Poson dawn tradition. A Kiri Ahara Pujawa ceremony was held on 23 June 2024, with the guidance of the General Officer Commanding 24 Infantry Division, Major General WLAC Perera RWP RSP USP, involving devotees and military personnel. The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to honor Buddha's teachings and immerse devotees in Sri Lanka's cultural heritage.
