The 9 Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery troops under the supervision of the 233 Infantry Brigade erected a "Sangawasa" for Sri Gamunu Viharaya at Sinhapura and handed over it to the Dikelle Ghanapradeepalankara, Nayaka Thero of the temple. During a simple ceremony the newly constructed "Sangawasa" was handed over in the hands of Major General Darshana Wijesekera, the Eastern Commander on Sunday (02 July).
This was made possible with the generosity extended by Mr. Chinthaka Abesekara old royalist and Mrs.Theja Kapuruge old Vishakiyan and with the coordination of Mr. Prasad Lokubalasooriya. The 9 Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery provided a workforce for the construction work under the close supervision of Colonel Kamal De Silva, the Brigade Commander 233 Infantry Brigade, and Lieutenant Colonel M I S Chandrakumara USP psc IG, the Commanding Officer of 9 Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery.
Rs. 167200.00 total costs expend to the construction and upon completion of the construction received the building from Eastern Commander to the Nayaka Thero. The Brigade Commander, 233 Infantry Brigade, the Commanding Officer of 9 Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, and officers of the battalion, Mr. Prasad Lokubalasooriya and relatives of the beneficiaries were also present at the event.
