EASTERN COMMANDER LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR CONSTRUCT THE NELUGALA STATUES ROAD

The Nelugala historical place, located in the south of Koralepattu in the Batticaloa district of the Eastern Province which is spread over an area, has about 16 ruins statues remaining now in the area. To preserve the ancient Sri Lankan culture, the restoration project of the Nelugala historic place was initiated by the Rev. Katakumbure Dhammarama Thero with the Archaeological Department. In order to initiate the first stage of the project the Eastern Commander, Major General Darshana Wijesekera laid the foundation stone for constructing the new road to Nelugala Statues, on Wednesday (12 July) at auspicious time in the middle of "Pirith" chanting.

The Eastern Commander, Major General Darshana Wijesekera graced the occasion as the chief guest. Brigadier KVNP Premaratne RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, the 23 Infantry Division, Brigade Commander, the 232 Infantry Brigade, Chief Coordinator of Civil Affairs of Security Force Headquarters - East, Commanding Officer, 12 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard and Rev. Katakumbure Dhammarama Thero, with the few officers of archaeological and metrology departments also participated to this occasion.
