Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG the Commander, Security Forces (East) was the Chief Guest at the Sinhala Language Diploma Awarding Ceremony for the Tamil speaking youths held at Oddamawadi National School on 18 November 2023. The Civil Citizen Committee, Batticaloa conducts free Language Diploma courses for Tamil speaking youth in the Area free of charge. Today, 290 youth obtained their diploma certificates from the Commander, Security Forces (East) during a well-attended ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG emphasized the importance of leaning each other’s language as a society and its positive outcomes towards a meaningful reconciliation process. He further stressed that Sinhaha youths too should learn the Tamil Language and it will eventually pave the way to achieve true reconciliation among all communities in the country. He also said that the Security Forces (East) has taken an initiative to conduct Tamil Language Courses for Sinhala students in area as well and the pilot project will start within a week time with the participation 200 Sinhala students from Sinhapura Maha Vidyalaya and Nelumwewa Maha Vidyalaya. SF Commander paid his gratitude to all members of the Civil Citizen Committee, Batticaloa for their timely initiative to attend this important social issue.
Major General KVNP Premaratne RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division, Staff Officers of Security Forces (East) and many Senior Officers and Officersrepresenting various headquarters under 23 Infantry Division were present at the event. Also, Moulavi MMS Haroon Sahvi, Managing Director of Al-Qimmah Association - Kalkudha, Mr. ACM Niyasdeen, Managing Director of Aqeel International Helping Unit - Oddamavadi, Mr. MA Haleem Ishaq Principal (SLPS), the Principal of National School - Oddamavadi, Mr. AL Abul Hasan (SLPS), Principle of Fathima Balika Maha Vidyalaya - Oddamavadiand many other invitees in attendance.
