EAST TROOPS LEARN ABOUT HIV/ AIDS & ‘SUICIDE PREVENTION’

Troops of the Security Forces – East were enlightened on ‘Human Immune Deficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS)’ & ‘Suicide Prevention’ in a series of valuable lectures organized by the Directorate of Psychological Operations during 02 to 05 Dec 19. These awareness sessions were organized on a concept of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc along with the guidance of Commander Security Forces East, Major General H R N Fernando RSP ndc.

The awareness lectures on HIV and AIDS, its transmission, prevention, impact on society, social implications, statistics, symptoms and medication were conducted by Dr Indra Peiris, the Director, HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitting Diseases Prevention Unit, Regional Office of Health Services Polonnaruwa to coincide with the World AIDS Day and the programme of ‘Ending AIDS in Sri Lanka by 2025’.

Similarly, Directorate of Preventive Medicine and Mental Health of the Army took steps to organize a series of lectures on ‘Prevention of Suicide’ conducted by Director, Directorate of Army Preventive Medicine and Mental Health Services, Colonel R M M Monaragala together with Major M.P.A Priyankara.

50 Officers including, (650) six hundred and fifty plus troops attended these lectures, covering all Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area (East) under the Security Force Headquarters-East.
