The Commander Security Force - East, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, officially relinquished duties as the 21st Commander Security Force (East) on 14 December 2021 and will assume office as the Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 15 December 2021.
The series of formalities held at Security Force Headquarters-East today (14) in connection with the relinquishment of the appointment commenced with reviewing of the Guard Turnout, accorded to the outgoing Commander on arrival at the venue. The Commander, Security Force (East) reviewed the Guard of Honour accorded to him by the troops of 4th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch in keeping with military traditions.
After posing for a group photograph with GOCs, Brigade Commanders and Staff Officers of the SFHQ (E), the outgoing Commander addressed the troops where he thanked everyone for the dedication and cooperation extended to achieve desired results in the Eastern Theatre as a cohesive military force. Further, he insisted preserving the image of the Army through maintenance of highest standards of discipline at all levels and function in all aspects, most efficiently and effectively.
Later, Major General Channa Weerasuriya declared open the renovated Warrant Officers' and Sergeant Mess at the Headquarters premises and attended the special farewell function organized at the Officers' Mess. In keeping with military traditions, Brigadier Admin and Quartering, Brigadier Jagath Weerakoon presented a memento to the SF-E Commander in appreciation of his services and the outgoing Commander placed his signature on the Visitors’ Book leaving an inspiring and indelible chapter as the Commander Security Force (East).
The proceedings reached the culmination with the departure of outgoing Commander Security Force (East) Major General Channa Weerasuriya, from the Security Force Headquarters (East) amidst the good wishes of all ranks of SFHQ (E) being in street lining.
