With the intention of familiarizing the role, tasks, and duties of the 22 Infantry Division (22 Inf Div) and its under-command Infantry Brigades (Inf Bde) and units, the Commander Security Forces - East (SF-E), Major General Darshana Wijesekera, paid his maiden formal field visits to the 22 Inf Div area on Thursday (June 16).
The Commander, SF-E first attended to the Koneshwaram Kovil "Poojava" early in the morning and afterward, he arrived at the Headquarters 22 Inf Div at Plantain Point, Trincomalee, and on the arrival Major General Mihidu Perera, General Officer Commanding (GOC) warmly welcomed him to the 22 Inf Div headquarters. With military traditions occurred a drive past at the main entrances of division headquarters saluted to the newly appointed Commander SF-E. After the group photograph and planting of sapling as symbols of memory of his visit, he addresses the troops of 22 Inf Div area and emphasized on continuing professional training and continuation of the good work while maintaining the highest standards of discipline at all levels. Moreover, arranged the all-rank tea party for the Commander SF-E at the gymnasium by the staff of 22 Inf div. Afterward conducted a comprehensive briefing on the role and tasks with focus on division area of responsibilities to educate the Commander SF-E by the GOC and Senior Intelligent Officer.
Thereafter, He arrived at the 2 (Volunteer) Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, and during the camp visit, he also visited Fort Fredrick. In the evening Conducted field visits in the 221 Inf Bde at Kuchchaveli and the 20 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment at Pulmmodai. With that he concluded 1st day of the visit and return to headquarters 22 Inf Div. On 17 June 2023 day morning, Commander, SF-E visit the 223 Infantry Brigade at Muthur and was warmly welcomed by, the Brigade Commander of the 223 Inf Bde on arrival, Commander, SF-(E) attended to the Formalities there. After that, He arrived at the 15 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry at Kanthale and the 222 Infantry Brigade at Jayanthigama. Then he visited the 5 (Volunteer) Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery at Kanthale. Finally, he visited to 24 Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment at Kallar, and with that he concluded his official visit to the 22 Inf Div area.
Commander SF-E, on his arrival at all the headquarters, was accorded a drive pass at the entrance by the troops of the respective establishment. Before departure from each location, he did not forget to make a note about his thoughts in the visitors’ book and planting of a sapling during the camp visits. Major General Mihidu Perera, GOC 22 Inf Div, respective Inf Bde Commanders under command of 22 Inf Div, Senior Staff Officers of Security Force Headquarters - East, Staff Officers of 22 Inf Div, respective Commanding Officers, Officers were participated in during the SF-E Commander’s two day visit.
