POL /DIMBU /Monarathenna Primary School Welikanda is a remote school in the Divisional Secretariat of Welikanda in Polonnaruwa and it belongs to the AOR of 23 Infantry Division. Fulfilling the requirement of school accessories of the students for the new term and cleaning the school premises were two of the main concerns of the principal and the parents.
Majority of the people in this area are from much needed families and 35 such students study in this school. With the guidance of the Commander of the Security Forces (East) Major General Prasanna Gunarathna RSP ndu psc IG and the coordination of the General Officer Commanding of 23 Infantry Division Major General Nilantha Premarathna RSP USP psc, and employee of Seylan Bank and the philanthropists in Colombo.
The 35 students were provided with sets of school accessories including exercise books, pens, Lunch Boxes, water bottles, pencils, sharpeners, erasers and crayons. Together with this, the roof of the main hall was repaired and the children’s park too was renovated after re-establishing it at another place. Along with these charity works, donation of essential sports kits and school stationary for common usage and distribution of nutritional packs for each of the student’s families.
This charity programme was conducted with the presence of the Commander of Security Forces (East),Major General Prasanna Gunarathna RSP ndu psc IG, General Officer Commanding of 23 Infantry Division, Major General Nilantha Premarathna RSP USP psc, The Deputy Director of Education (Planning) of Dimbulagala Education Zone, Mr PGS Ajith kumara, and Deputy Director of Education (School) Mrs TADYG Thewarapperuma, and the other philanthropists including Mr. and Mrs.Suresh Pakshaweera, Mr. and Mrs.Krishan Silva with their daughter. At the end of the programme, the students and their parents were treated with lunch with the contribution of the philanthropists. Also, saplings were planted by each student to mark the event.
