COMMANDER SF (EAST) MEETS THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS, COMMUNITY LEADERS AND PROFESSIONALS OF THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY IN BATTICALOA DISTRICT

Subsequent to assumption of duties in the office recently, the Commander Security Forces (East), Major General Santhusitha Pananwala had a discussion with the religious leaders, community leaders and professionals of the Muslim community in Batticaloa district with the view of understanding the perceptions of each community in order to enhance peaceful co-existence between ethnic groups.\r\n\r\nIn accordance with the guidance of the Comd of the Army, this forum was an initiative to strengthen understanding between the different communities and ethnic harmony through the promotion of new Community Engagement Projects in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Sri Lanka (SDGs). \r\n\r\nDuring the meeting, the Commander SF (East) insisted the need to have effective communication between ethnic groups and to engage with all communities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, with the view to empower the human capital and build trust between communities, he underlined the planned community engagement projects namely; Leadership programmes for the school prefects, Organic waste compost projects, Greenhouse and Plant Nursery projects and the projects to enhance sporting skills of the youth in Batticaloa. In response, the Muslim leaders came up with the suggestion to conduct awareness programmes against the drug menace in the area and agreed upon to develop a roadmap to obtain sustainability and ethnic harmony. \r\n\r\nThe attended religious leaders, community leaders and professionals of the Muslim community agreed upon to provide fullest support to implement these community related projects, in response to the Commanders views and paid their gratitude for the Commander SF (E) for organizing this kind of forum to enhance the understanding between stake holders and communities.\r\n\r\nMr. M L Athram Bawa - Chief Trustee Anvar Masjith, Mr. M I M Raheem JP - Senior Member of Mosque Federation Kattakudi, Mr. Rasheed Hajiar - President Nuha Foundation along with religious leaders, community leaders and professionals of the Muslim community Batticaloa district, GOC 23 Division and Senior Staff Officers attended the meeting. \r\n
