COMMANDER SECURITY FORCE (EAST) MEETS TAMIL COMMUNITY DURING FIELD VISITS TO 10 GR AND 11 SLSR BATTALIONS

The Commander Security Force (East), Major General K P A Jayasekera WWV RSP USP ndc psc, made field visits to 11 (V) Sri Lanka Singha Regiment and 10 Gajaba Regiment on Thursday, 28 February 2019 in order to be familiar with respective duties, roles and tasks of under command establishments.

The Commander Security Force (East) visited the 10th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment deployed in Batticaloa. On arrival at the premises, Commander was received by Lt Col R Ehelepola USP USACGSC, the Commanding Officer of the 10th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment. A drive pass was followed by an introduction to all officers and SNCOs of the Battalion. Thereafter, planting of a ‘Mango’ tree sapling was followed by a comprehensive briefing on operational and administrative matters by the Commanding Officer. Addressing the troops, the Commander Security Force - East emphasized on the importance of training and maintaining the highest possible standards of discipline as professionals in the Sri Lanka Army.

The visiting Commander arrived at the Headquarters 11(V) SLSR, Kurukkalmadam and welcome by Lt Col EUWNC Ehelepola, the Commanding Officer. After the CO’s briefing, Commander was invited to plant a ‘Mango’ sapling inside the Headquarters premises to mark this visit. Concluding the itinerary of the first visit, Major General Aruna Jayasekera addressed the all ranks of the Battalion and joined an all rank tea and shared a cup of tea with Officers and soldiers of the Battalion.

Later on, the Commander Security Forces (East), had a discussion with Tamil community of Karaitiv at the auditorium of Karaitiv Pradeshiya Sabha. During the discussion, special attention was given on common challenges encountered by the Tamil community in the area and insisted relevant precautions that could be promptly taken to overcome those challenges.

The Commander SF (East) emphasized the need to have effective communication between Army and the civil society in overcoming those challenges of the society. In response to the Commander's views, the Tamil community agreed upon to provide fullest support in this regard and paid their gratitude for the Commander Security Force (East) for organizing these kinds of forums.
