As the first formal visit to the Field Formations, the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva visited the Security Force Headquarters (East) on Sunday (8) and met Officers and Other Ranks of the Eastern Command. On arrival, the visiting commander was received by Major General Aruna Jayasekera, the Commander Security Force (East) and several other Senior Officers.
The Commander was saluted in a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honor accorded by the soldiers of the Commander’s own Regiment, the Gajaba Regiment. At the end of the parade, the Commander planted a 'Sal' sapling at the temple premises of SF HQ (E) to mark his visit.
Later on, the Commander SF (E) briefed the Commander on the security measures taken subsequent to the attack by extremists on 21st April and discussed matters on deferent aspects pertaining to the Security Force (East).
Then, the Commander addressed the Officers and Other Ranks representing all Divisions and the Forward Maintenance Area (East) where he paid a glowing tribute to the troops for their dedicated work for the Nation in the aftermath of the April 21st attack.
Sitting for a group photograph and an all rank tea were among major segments in the day’s itinerary at SF HQ (E) Welikanda.
