CHAMPION OF INTER DIVISION BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT IN THE EASTERN GAMES IN 2022 CELEBRATES BY 23 INFANTRY DIVISION.

With the concept and directions of Commander, Security Forces (East), Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi, and close supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division, Brigadier Wipula Chandrasiri, the Inter-Division Basketball tournament of Security Forces (East) was Organized by 24 Infantry Division. The preliminary round matches of this tournament started with the participation of Basketball teams, Security Forces Headquarters – East, Forward Maintenance Area (East), 22, 23, and 24 Infantry Divisions at the Basketball court of “Weber sport complex ” Batticaloa. All the teams displayed professionalism and the 23 and 24 infantry Divisions qualified for the final by dominating the other teams. The final match of the tournament was held also at “Weber” sports complex Batticaloa on 13 January 2023.

Furthermore, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the tournament with hyped-up enthusiasm as it enhances comradeship, determination, courage, discipline, and sportsmanship among all participants as well as spectators. In a competitive five-setter, the 23 Infantry Division secured the championship with a score of 65 to 63 victories over the 24 Infantry Division in the final match of the Inter-Division Basketball Tournament - 2022 of Security Forces (East). A display of Tamil Cultural dancing by “Vishwa Bharath Dancing Academy” and a display of Sinhala cultural dancing by the Civil Security Department at Uhana. Also witnessed a large gathering of “Basketball fans” and distinguished guests delighting the event a more glamorous, colorful, and cheerful one. The following were specially commended and given trophies for their exceptional performances.

* Best shooter - O/8697 Capt PCK Ranaweera SLNG (16 SLNG)- 24 Division

* Best player - S/11E01304 Sgt Weerasooriya hpdsl (11 SLSR) - 23 Division

Commander, Security Forces (East), Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi graced the occasion as the chief guest. Infantry Division Commanders, Infantry Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Staff Officers of Eastern theater, and distinguished invitees participated in the occasion. Toward the end of the presentation ceremony, Chief Guest stood for a group photograph with both teams.
