BOOK DONATION PROGRAMME BY 20TH BATTALION OF THE GAJABA REGIMENT TO MARK THE 76TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY

To mark the 76th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, the 20th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment organized a Book Donation Programme on 10 October 2025 as part of its civil–military cooperation and community welfare efforts.

The event was held under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding 22 Infantry Division and the Commander 221 Infantry Brigade, aiming to support the education of underprivileged students from diverse backgrounds within the area of responsibility.

Former Commander of the 221 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Ruwan Ehelepola USP USACGSC, played a pivotal role in coordinating with donors. Sri Lankan expatriates in Saudi Arabia—Mr Muditha Madava, Thushara Manikdivala, Manoj Jayawardena, and Mahesh Dissanayake—extended their generous support to the initiative. Their contribution enabled the distribution of books and educational materials to 61 students of the Mineral Sands Sinhala School in Pulmoddai, representing Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim communities.

The programme was efficiently organized by the 20th Battalion under the supervision of Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Rohana Ekanayake RWP RSP psc GR.

This meaningful gesture not only offered vital educational assistance but also promoted inter-community harmony and goodwill, reflecting the Sri Lanka Army’s enduring commitment to nation-building and educational upliftment.
