Poson Poya is a significant day in the Buddhist calendar, marking the arrival of Mihidu Maharath Thero (Arahat Mahinda Thera) in Sri Lanka and the introduction of Buddhism to the island. This sacred day, which falls in June, is observed with various religious ceremonies across Sri Lanka.
To commemorate Poson Poya, a Bodhi Puja and a sermon were organized at the Security Force Headquarters–East. The event was attended by senior and junior staff officers, other ranks, and civil servants. For this special occasion, Venerable Delvita Meththakankara Thero was invited to deliver the sermon and lead the Puja.
The ceremony served several key purposes:
Paying tribute to war heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice
Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured in the war
Seeking blessings for all personnel serving at the Security Force Headquarters–East and their families
The event provided an opportunity for all attendees to reflect on Buddhist teachings, engage in spiritual practices, and strengthen their faith. Such religious observances serve as a reminder of the importance of peace, compassion, and gratitude, reinforcing moral values among those in service.
