Dimbulagala Buddhist Association has annually organized the awarding ceremony of conferment of the honorary patriotic title for people who perform great service for the Eastern area. This honor is given annually to the officers of the armed forces and civil society activists who render their service for the Society on patriotism, public safety, and welfare.
The "Janajaya Sadana Samaggha Sri Deshabandu" Honorary Patriotic Title award was conferred on Major General Darshana Wijesekera, the Eastern Commander on Sunday (30 July) at Cultural Centre - Welikanda for the dedication and devotion to the development of Welikanda area, and in recognition of tireless service in socio-cultural and religious matters. This title was awarded by the hand of "Ven. Sinhapura Chethiyalankara Nayaka Thero of Dibulagala Aranya Senasanadhipathi Thamankaduwa depalathe Sanganayake". Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi, the Jaffna Commander (Former Commander of the Security Forces - East), and Major General Shewanth Kulatunga, the Chief Field Engineer (Former General Officer Commanding the 23 Infantry Division), were also presented with the "Janajaya Sadana Samaggha Sri Deshabandu" Honorary Patriotic Title Award on the same event.
In addition to this, the Security forces commander awarded the letter of appointment of Prefects and wearing of official badges to Dhamma School Students. Children of the Weliknada Dhamma School also performed dancing items during the programme. Maha Sangha of Dumbulagala area, Staff Officers of Security Force Headquarters - East, and devoted people participated in the event held at Welikanda.
