ARMY-INVOLVED TEMPLE CONSTRUCTIONS IN PROGRESS IN THE EAST

Various construction projects at Buddhist temples in Trincomalee, Apmara and Polonnaruwa districts are underway with the manpower, technical and engineering expertise of the troops of 22, 23 and 24 Divisions under command to Security Force Headquarters (East) under the guidance of the Commander Security Force (East) Major General Channa Weerasuriya and the GOCs of respective Divisions.

Accordingly, the constructions are conducted at Ancient Kottiyarama Rajamaha Viharaya - Pachchanur, Lunugala Rajamaha Viharaya and Lankarama Rajamaha Viharaya - Gomarankadawala, Samudragiri Pichchamale Rajamaha Viharaya – Kuchchaweli and Historic Girihanduseya - Thiriyaya in 22 Infantry Division - Trincomalee. In 23 Infantry Division, constructions projects are undergoing at Kalukele Sri Sugatharama Viharaya - Dimbulagala, Sri Shailabimbarama Viharaya - Bakamuna, Sri Aggrabodhi Viharaya - Gallella, Sri Shanthai Nikethanaramaya - Somawathiya, Unagala Wehera Rajamaha Viharaya – Girithale, Sri Mahindarama Viharaya – Mailankarachchi and Siri Perakum Maha Pirivena – Pulathisigama within the Polonnaruwa district. Meanwhile, Aranthalawa Viharaya – Ampara, Sri Owagiri Rajamaha Viharaya – Polwaththa, Uththara Jayamaha Viharaya – Hingurana, Historic Deegawapi Rajamaha Viharaya – Ampara, Kotawehera Deegalaka Viharaya – Lahugala and Sri Vidyananda Pirivena – Ampara are the temples where the construction projects undergoing in 24 Infantry Division AOR.

Under the civil military coordination, these construction projects are underway with the supervision of the Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers of the respective battalions.
