ARMY FACILITATES THE OPENING OF "SIRI SEELALANKARA PRIMARY PIRIVANA" AT KALKUDAH IN BATTICALOA

On the directions given by the Commander Security Force (East), Major General Senarath Bandara, troops of 231 Brigade facilitated for opening of “Siri Seelalankara Primary Pirivana” at KALKUDAH in BATTICALOA on 1 July 2020.

The Pirivena had been initially established before 1950 at Wellawadiya Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya, BATTICALOA and had been closed for last 10 years due to insufficient number of students. With the initiative of Ven. Dimbulagala Dewalankara Thero, this school was renovated and reopened as “Siri Seelalankara Pirivena” with the assistance of the generous donors on 01 July 2020. The main aim of functioning this Pirivena is to facilitate the possibility of education for the students of all religions in the area.

The programme was organised by the troops of Headquarters 23 Division and Headquarters 231 Brigade in collaboration with 4th Battalion of the Gamunu Watch, 11 (V ) Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment 6th Battalion of Gajaba Regiment.

The contributionof the troops was commended by the founder of the “Siri Seelalankara Primary Pirivana” Dimbulagala Dewalankara Thero and Narampanawe Ananda Thero in Asgiriya Chapter who assisted this project in a big way.

The Governor of the Eastern Province Mrs. Anuradha Yahampath attended the event as the Chief Guest. General Officer Commanding 23 Division Major General Dhammika Jayasundara, General Officer Commanding 58 Division Major General Priyanka Fernando and Commander 231 Brigade Colonel Janaka Pallekumbura and other respective invitees attended the event.
