ANOTHER COMMUNITY - ORIENTED EMPOWERING PROGRAMME OF ARMY SEVA VANITHA UNIT CONCLUDES IN SF (EAST)
A donation programme of school items sponsored by the Lions Club of Colombo Fort was successfully held at Sinhapura Kanishta Vidyalaya Welikanda on Saturday (04) under the coordination of Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU). This was an initiative aimed at enhancing education of our dear sons and daughters of the less privileged schools by donating various necessities to the needy students and to the institution and it was conducted in line with the series of community-oriented empowering programmes organized by the Sri Lanka Army.\r\n\r\nThe President Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) Mrs. Chandrika Senanayake and representatives along with delegates from the Lions Club were warmly welcomed by the teachers and the students of the school. The proceedings officially commenced with the lighting of the traditional Oil Lamp and the welcome note being read out by the principle of the school. The ceremony was brightened by some eye catching dance items performed by the students of the school and it was heart-warming to see such talent by the young pupils.\r\n\r\n And then, moving on to the most important item on the agenda the Lions Club of Colombo Fort handed over the goods worth Rs. 1,000,000.00 (one million) to the school and to the students. Items that were donated to the school included: essential stationery items, shoes, school books, school bags, and sports equipment and etc. It was very pleasing to see the satisfied little faces, delighted at the receipt of such valuable items.\r\n\r\nThe students and the teachers of the school took this opportunity to present a memento to the President ASVU as a token of appreciation for this worthy cause and the principle of the school made a special mention on the worthy contribution made by Army Seva Vanitha Unit and the Lions Club of Colombo Fort. The day\'s proceedings were concluded with the tea offered by the parents of the school.\r\n\r\nMr. Thakshila Ulangamuwa-President of the Lions Club of Colombo Fort, Major General H W S D B Pananwala RSP ndu -Commander Security Forces East, Mrs. Dhananjanee Karunasekara-the Vice President of Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Mr. Malan Ranasinghe-Coordinating Officer Lions Club, Senior Officers, Officers, the students, parents, teachers and other well wishers were in attendance.
