In line with the multifarious educative and awareness programmes conducted for the benefit of all ranks of Security Force (East), an initiative was launched with a concept of Major General Aruna Jayasekera Commander Security Force (East) intending to uplift the living standards of the soldiers of Security Forces (East) through agro-based self-employment ventures.
A series of agricultural training sessions were organized at the Security Force Headquarters (East) with the view to acquire the contribution of human recourse of Sri Lanka Army to the agro-economic development of the Nation. Thereby, a lecture on TJC Mango cultivation was conducted by Mr. I G Weerasooriya, the Manager of Ellawala Horticulture (Pvt) Ltd and his assistant Mrs. Chandima Madhushani on Tuesday 25.
On the following day, the soldiers were educated on bee farming with a fruitful awareness session conducted by Mr. Thissa Bandara Thambawita, the Secretary of ‘Bingu Sampath Surakime Sanwidhanaya’ and a lecture on Mushroom cultivation by Mr. R A T K M Ranaweera aiming at introducing with an additional source of income for the soldiers.
The closing ceremony of these sessions was conducted on 27 of June at the Headquarters of 5 (V) Battalion of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Dalukana with the presence of Mr. N K G K Nemmawatta - the Secretary of the State Ministry of Defence as the Chief Guest. Mr. Sasika Wasalage - the Project Officer of the Ministry of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment, Major General Manoj Mudannayaka - Commander FMA (East) / Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Major General Kapila Udalupola - GOC 23 Division, Brigadier Michael Wanniarachchi - BAQ SFHQ (East), Colonel Roshan Jayamanna - Commander 232 Brigade, Colonel R Elvitigala - Commander 233 Brigade and Major S G M Premathilaka SLAWC - the Commanding Officer 5(V) SLAWC were also among the invitees.
