According to the prevailing weather condition of the eastern theater, the water level of the tanks are rising. Hence, 8 Sri Lanka National Guard has been informed by the Irrigation Engineer in charge of the Sagama tank on 09 January 2024, that a part of the tank embankment has been cracked. Accordingly, 01 Officer with 10 troops of 8 Sri Lanka National Guard, dispatch to the place where the damage occurred and laying sandbags and reconstructed it. A members of the Thambiluvil Irrigation Department and GN of Sagama also participated in this.
This Operation was conducted under the direction of the General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division, Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, and Brigade Commander, 242 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier K P L Amunupure RWP RSP USP with the close supervision of Commanding Officer, 8 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard Major EDSK Deniyaya. After the Operation embankment is back to normal condition.
