The 7th Light Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery conducted a school books and stationery distribution programme on 11th January 2026 for 54 students of NCP/PLN/HGK/MEDIRIGIRIYA / MAHAWELI Primary School, a remote school located in the Medirigiriya Divisional Secretariat.
The programme was made possible through the personal financial contribution of Colonel KAP Karawita RSP USP, with additional support from the past pupils of Hanwella Rajasinghe Central College (G.C.E. Ordinary Level – 1991 batch). Officers and troops of the 7th Light Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery actively participated in organizing and conducting the event.
Colonel KAP Karawita RSP USP graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by the Commanding Officer, 7 Light Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, Lieutenant Colonel T.R.P. Lanerole RSP USP PSC IG SLA, along with senior officers, officers, and troops of the regiment. The school principal, teaching staff, and parents of the students were also present.
The programme reflected the Sri Lanka Army’s continued commitment to community welfare and the upliftment of education in underprivileged and remote areas, further strengthening civil–military cooperation.
