4 GW TROOPS ORGANIZE NATIONAL SCHOOL CRICKET CARNVAL

4th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch deployed under 231 Infantry Brigade of 23 Infantry Division under command to Security Force Headquarters (East) organized a Cricket Carnival among National Schools at Sitty Vinayagar Cricket Ground Sittandy from 10 Apr 21 to 11 Apr 21.

Cricket teams representing the following National Schools of Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa districts participated in the tournament:

a.Wesly High School Kalmunai - Ampara

b.ST/Michael’s College - Batticaloa

c.ST/Joseph’s College National School - Trincomalee

d.Minneriya National College - Polonnaruwa

Dr. Ravi Kumar’s initiation and genuine contribution immensely benefited to conduct this tournament at grand level in view of promoting inter community relationship which is widely considered as the need of hour.

Major General KNN Koswatta RWP RSP ndu , General Officer Commanding of 23 Infantry Division was invited as the Chief Guest to mark the opening ceremony of the tournament at 0800 hrs on 10 Apr 21.

The final match was held from 1330 hrs to 1700 hrs on 11 Apr 21 between Minneriya National College – Polonnaruwa and ST/Michael’s College - Batticaloa where Minneriya National College - Polonnaruwa won the tournament.

Commander Security Forces (East) Major General CD Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu graced the finals of National School Cricket Carnival as the Chief Guest. District Secretary Batticaloa, Mr. K Karunaharan and Sri Lankan former fast bowler Mr. Raveendra Pushpakumara graced the occasion as guests of honour.

General Officer Commanding 23 Infantry Division, Commanders of 231, 232 and 233 Infantry Brigades, Senior Officers of Army, Police and Public Service were invited and witnessed the finals.
