242 INFANTRY BRIGADE ORGANIZED A WORLD’S WOMEN’S DAY PROGRAMME WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF 23 SLSR

A ceremony was held at the Arugambay Blue Wave Hotel to coincide with Women’s day on 8 March 2021 and this event was organized by the Tourism Board and the Sri Lanka Army. The event was held with the assistance of the Additional District Secretary of Ampara Mr. A L A Lathif, Commander 242 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Chandika Peris, Deputy Commander of the South Eastern Naval Command Commodore Nevil Obeysiri, Commanding Officer of 23 SLSR Major Wasantha Munasinghe, Senior Army Officers, Senior Officers of government and non government organizations.

Financial assistance was provided by the National Housing Development Authority worth of Rs. 800,000 to selected homeless low income families in Lahugala and Pothuvil divisional secretariats in coordination with the Sri Lanka Army. Providing a house worth of Rs. 250000 for a disable women, providing assistance self - employment for disables, providing material for 10 pregnant mothers for their deliveries were some activities held. The staff of the Pothuvil Base Hospital, armed forces, Grama Niladhari, Pre - school Teachers, Samurdhi Officers have been awarded certificates by the organizing committee in this special occasion.
