With the blessing of Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi, the Commander, Security Forces - East, and supervision of Major General Wipula Chandrasiri, General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division, and under the direction of Brigadier Anuradha Solangaarachchi, Brigade Commander, 242 Infantry Brigade, with the patronage of Lions Club, 306 B 2, Weliweriya, renovated library building of Pottuvil Sinhala Vidyalaya by the under command troops of 242 Infantry Brigade was handed over for students on Monday (March 27).
The Lions Club donated a thousand books related to many fields of subjects on that day. Also, they have given Rs.2500.00 worth of six scholarships to four students and Rs.5000.00 worth of scholarships to two students.
Showing the racial harmony of the area Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim students have been studying Sinhala medium in this school. Most of the students are from low-income families and those books will help to enhance their knowledge. The programme was highly appreciated by the principal and teaching staff of the school, and the parents of the students. Further, Lions Club agreed to continue the support to uplift the standard of the school.
Brigadier Anuradha Solangaarachchi, Brigade Commander, 242 Infantry Brigade, grace the occasion as a chief guest and, Civil Affair Officer, both Commanding Officers of under-command battalions, officers, and other ranks also attended the event.
