A contingent of Army personnel belonging to the 8 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) under the 242 Infantry Brigade of 24 Infantry Division of Security Force Headquarters (East), responding to an emergency need around the morning hours on Thursday (March 23) assisted to fire extinguishing a sudden fire that had occurred in textile shop at Thirukkovil, Thambiliuvil area.
Following information and the request of the Thirukkovil Fire Brigade, 2 officers and 25 other ranks from 8 SLNG and two water bowsers from 242 Infantry Brigade, along with the Thirukkovil Fire Brigade, hurried to the scene and commenced work to bring the quickly spreading fire under control within a few hours before more damage was caused to the rest of the area.
Brigadier Anuradha Solangaarachchi, Brigade Commander 242 Infantry Brigade, together with Major Samantha Deniyaya, Commanding Officer of 8 SLNG, closely supervised the task on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division and the Commander, Security Forces (East).
