24 INFANTRY DIVISION TROOPS ENSURE THE MAIN WATER SUPPLY IN SAINDAMARADU, NINDAVUR AND AKKAREIPATTU AREA

Gal Oya water reservoir was over spilled with the heavy rain on 12 January 2024. The main underground water supply line to the Saindamaradu, Nindavur, and Akkareipattu, has emerged due to soil erosion in an area of 50 meters away from Midindupura area which belongs to the Ampara Water Supply and Drainage Board.

After understating the threat for the water supply to those areas, with the quick guidance of Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division and under the instructions of Brigadier LSDN Pathirathna RSP USP, Commander, 241 Infantry Brigade, employed 00x18 troops from 24 Infantry Division, 02x15 troops from 241 Infantry Brigade, 00x15 troops from 11 Sri Lanka National Guard and 04x26 troops from Sri Lanka Ari Force Base- Uhana to temporary restored soil erosion place with the laying of sandbags along the pipeline. Required assistance was provided by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board office - Ampara and Akkaraipattu.
