24 INFANTRY DIVISION LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME INSPIRES SCHOOL GIRLS IN AMPARA DISTRICT

Leadership isn't limited to adulthood; it is a skill that can be nurtured from a young age. Recognizing this, Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, the General Officer Commanding, has undertaken a commendable initiative by conducting a leadership programme for 90 girls’ students of Bandaranayaka Girls’ School and Damana Maha Vidyalaya on 18th December 2023. This visionary approach aims to instill foundational leadership qualities in young minds, empowering them to become confident, responsible, and effective leaders in the future.

The leadership programme created for girls who are in grades 8 and above goes beyond the conventional classroom curriculum. It is designed to inspire and empower these young minds to take charge of their actions, make informed decisions, and cultivate qualities that will not only serve them well in their academic journey but also prepare them for leadership roles in various aspects of life.

Students learned the value of teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication. Through interactive activities and group projects, they develop essential skills that lay the foundation for successful leadership. The programme provides a safe environment for students to express themselves, share their ideas, and participate in discussions, boosting their self-assurance.

In an age where leadership skills are increasingly important, introducing leadership concepts to students is a forward-thinking approach that promises long-term benefits. The leadership programme exemplifies how investing in the leadership development of young minds can contribute to the growth and progress of society as a whole. As these young leaders in the making continue their educational journey, they carry with them the lessons learned, poised to make a positive impact on the world around them.

In addition to the leadership programme, the General Officer Commanding distributed 90 Mee Trees (Madhucalongifolia) among the students for the benefit of environmental protection. It’s believed to release oxygen into the environment throughout the day and night. Further, Students and teachers were treated to a delicious lunch and morning and evening tea.

Colonel General Staff, Colonel TKD Dharamsena RWP RSP, Colonel Admin & Quartering, Colonel NN Abeyasekara, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks serving under the 24 Infantry Division, and the principals, along with the tutorial staff of the schools, attended the programme.
