In line with the forthcoming phenomenal Christmas, 24 Division Ampara conducted a Christmas Carols Service for the second consecutive year at H M Weerasinghe Stadium Ampara on 21 December 2017 commemorating Jesus Christ, the son of God.\r\n\r\nThe programme was held in collaboration with catholic priests of Church St. Ignatius Ampara and with the guidance of Maj Gen LM Mudalige General Officer Commanding 24 Division. The event commenced with the opening prayer session and religious observances delivered by Rev. Fr. Thiruchelwam Parish of the Church of Soori Kalmunai. Rev. Fr. Rohan Wasantha delivered the introductory speech reminding the gathering of the true meaning of Christmas. The Choirs of Ampara Church, Inginiyagala Church, Soori Kalmunai Church along with the Army Choir sang odes and hymns jointly to the Prince of the Peace, Jesus Christ. \r\n\r\nCommander Security Forces East Major General Santhusitha Pananwala graced the event as the Chief Guest and Government Agent of Ampara Mr. Thusitha P. Wanigasinghe, Senior DIG – Eastern Province Mr. Kapila Jayasekara, Brigadier BVDP Abeynayake GOC 23 Division honored the programme by their presence amidst a gathering of distinguished invitees. Members of the Christian Clergy and Senior Army Officers were also present at the occasion. The well known civil organizations and business community in the area gave their maximum support to make this event a success.\r\n
