231 BRIGADE CELEBRATES THE NEW YEAR FESTIVAL WITH THE BATTICALOA PEOPLE

The Weber ground in Batticaloa held a New Year festival programme on Sunday (30 April) on account of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. The 231 Infantry Brigade troops, together with the District Secretary office - Batticaloa and Sri Lanka Police - Batticaloa organized this festival in Batticaloa town. The New Year festival was organized with the aim of, civil-military cooperation and mutual relations in a multi-cultural, religious, multi-ethnic.

The New Year celebration was comprised of traditional and rural games of marathon, cycle race, boat race, climbing the grease tree, pillow fighting, tug of war, selecting the new year handsome boy and beauty queen and etc. Furthermore, the festival was colored by both Sinhala and Tamil traditional dancing features. A large number of Tamil and Sinhala civilians enthusiastically participated in those events.

Mrs. Kalamathi Pathmarajah, District Secretariat Batticaloa, Brigadier Dilupa Bandara, Commander, 231 Infantry Brigade, and Mr. Udith Liyanage Deputy Inspector General of Police Batticaloa District joined as chief guests of Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival celebration.

231 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officers, Officers, of the battalions, contributed their maximum effort to the successful completion of the programme in coordination with the District Secretary office- Batticaloa, and Batticaloa Police.
