The 23 Infantry Division proudly celebrated its '27th Anniversary' on 23 July 2024, marking another significant milestone of the history under the direction and participation of Major General W.P. Kariyawasam, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division with a series of programs.
In line with the 27th anniversary celebrations, the staff of the 23 Infantry Division organized various religious activities on 22 July 2024. Accordingly, the Buddhist religious event took place at Sevanapitiya Temple with the participation of noble monks. The Hindu event was held at Hindu Kovil, Manampitiya while the Christian event took place at Holy Rosary Goddess Christian Church, Palugasdamana. The Islamic event was held at Abu Badder Sid dab Jumma Mosque, Ridithanna with the participation of troops and devotees.
These events highlighted the division's commitment to inclusivity and respect for diverse religious traditions.
In accordance with military traditions, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 23 Infantry Division graced the 'Anniversary Day' celebrations on 23 July 2024 marking the inauguration of the event. Upon his arrival at the venue, he reviewed the Guard Turn Out and received the salute from the Guard of Honour presented by the troops of the 4th Battalion the Gemunu Watch. Further, the ceremony was followed by a group photograph and the planting of a tree sapling.
To coincide with the anniversary, an all-rank lunch was held with the participation of respective Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks.
After a while, the GOC addressed all Officers and Other Ranks, marking the conclusion of the anniversary proceedings.
