THE 23 INFANTRY DIVISION CONJOINS IN COMMEMORATING THE 76TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

In conjunction with the 76th Independence Day, a series of civil welfare programs were launched by the 23 Infantry Division together with the troops under command, on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd February 2024. As the pioneer, the 23 Infantry Division Headquarters conducted a cleaning campaign to clean Monarathenna Primary School in Welikanda. In cooperation with the 7th Light Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, and 231 Infantry Brigade directed a cleaning program to clean the hospital premises of Hingurakgoda along with that, the troops of 12th Battalion the Gemunu Watch, under the command of the 231 Infantry Brigade conducted a cleaning program at Siluminaseya RajamahaViharaya. Meanwhile, the 232 Infantry Brigade together with the troops of the 12th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard conducted an offering of blessings to the nation at Sri Ganadevi Kovil in Pulipanchikal. Apart from those, the troops of 233 Infantry Brigade conducted a cleaning campaign to clean the public ground of Vakarai and color wash the stadium. Along with that, the troops of 9 Field Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery conducted a cleaning Programme to clean the maternity clinic center in Sinhapura, and the troops of 7th Battalion the Gemunu Watch conducted both a cleaning campaign to clean the Vakarai hospital premises and removal of waste on either side of the A-11 road from Meeyankulam to Rideethenna.

All the above civil welfare programs were implemented under the supervision and guidance of Major General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP psc, the General Officer Commanding of 23 Infantry Division and the Commanders of 231, 232, and 233 Infantry Brigades and the participation of 10 x 180 troops of 7th Light Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, 9th Field Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, 7th Battalion the Gemunu Watch, 12th Battalion the Gemunu Watch and 12th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard participated. moreover, 150 civilians together with over 50 hospital staff collaborated with the troops of the 23 Infantry Division.
