222 & 223 INFANTRY BRIGADE STROOPS ORGANIZE A SOFTBALL CRICKET TOURNAMENT

On the concept of Commander, Security Forces - East, Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi and under the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, Major General Saliya Amunugama together with the close supervision of the Commander, 223 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Ravindra Jayasinghe, and fully patronage of Overlooking Commander, 222 Infantry Brigade, Colonel Nimal Chandrasekara, two Cricket Tournaments were organized by under command troops of 22 Division at Valathottam playground and Sampur Public Stadium with the aim of promoting harmony among the multi-ethnic and multi-religious people living in the area during 25, 26 and 27 November 2022.

Accordingly, 8 teams with representing Army, Civil Security Department, Sinhala and Tamil Sports Clubs of the area competed for the tournament organized by 222 Infantry Brigade. CSD – Serunuwara Cricket team become the Champions and Kaveri Sports club - Soornagar become the Runners Up. The Commander 222 Infantry Brigade, Overlooking Brigade Commander of the 222 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer of 24 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and civil personals from area participated in the final presentation ceremony of the 222 Infantry Brigade Cricket Tournament.

Meanwhile, 24 teams representing Army, Navy, Police, Tamil and Muslim Sports Clubs competed in this tournament organized by 223 Infantry Brigade on 27 November 2022 at Sampur Public Stadium, among them Sampur Star A team became the Champions and Mutur Real Star become the Runners Up of the tournament.

General Officer Commanding of 22 Infantry Division graced the final presentation ceremony of Cricket tournament occasion as the Chief Guest with participation of Commander 223 Infantry Brigade, Commandant of Vidura Naval Training School Captain R Dissanayake, Commanding Officer of Sri Lanka Naval Base Parakumba, Commander HMR Herath, Senior Superintendent of Police in Trincomalee Division Mr. Prasanna Brahmanage, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and civil persons of the area participated in the event.
