The 26th Anniversary of 22 Infantry Division was scheduled on 23 July 2023. A series of events on account of the 26th anniversary had been taken placed since 14 July 2023.
As per a concept of General Officer Commanding of 22 Infantry Division Maj Gen GMN Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, “General Officer Commanding Challenge Trophy Cricket Tournament” conducted on 14th and 15th of July with the participation of 10 cricket teams including Division HQ, Brigades and Battalions cricket teams.
On 17th July A Shramadana Campaign conducted at “Missionaries of Charity” elders home and 18 July, a charity programme was organized at “Revatha” children orphanage. In the same day evening, finals of “General Officer Commanding Challenge Trophy Cricket Tournament” was held at cricket ground of 22 Infantry Division.
The 22 Infantry Division’s forward - march at the turn of its 26th Anniversary received spiritual blessings in the customary all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting, held Friday (21) evening at the Division Headquarters with the offer of ‘Heel Daana’ (breakfast) to members of the Maha Sangha, on the following day.
On Monday (24), the ceremonial commemorations were commenced. There, GOC was honored by a guard turnout. After the guard turnout the remaining day’s events followed with a group photograph, troop address, planting a sapling and all rank lunch. The day events concluded with a cricket match played within the divisional sub teams.
A series of events terminated with the Musical night held on 28th July 2023. This was organized for the all ranks of the 22 Infantry Division and it’s under command formations. Major General UD Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc graced the occasion as the chief guest. General Officer Commanding of 24, 53 and 58 Infantry Divisions and all Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers of 22 Infantry Division were participated to the musical night. Dignitaries and Government Officials of Trincomalee area were also participated as special invitees.
