22 INF DIV TPS RESCUED 4 CIVILIANS LOST IN THE JUNGLE OVERNIGHT AT MADUWANKULAM JUNGLE, TRINCOMALEE

Tps under the Direction of GOC 22 Inf Division, Maj Gen SB Amunugama RWP RSP ndu rescued four civilians who were lost in the Maduwankulam and Poonei-aru jungles in Kumburupiddi ,Trincomalee on 9 May 2023. The villagers who were street vendors sell fruits including jungle bush fruit had gone to the aforesaid jungle area to pluck “Palu” and collect fire wood on yesterday (8 May) morning and after the completion of their work, they found that they were lost the route back to their village with the evening darkness. The mobile phone contacts also were failed by the villagers when trying to contact them.

Then, on the request of the Kumburupiddi police station 17 SLNG tps launched a search operation at 2130 hrs, with some villagers. The operation succeeded after establishing some communication with the lost personnel in the morning hours of 9 May after an overnight search operation. The group including 1 male and 3 female were safely brought to the village by the Tps and handed over to their family members. 2 x 24 tps of 17 SLNG participated in this search operation under the supervision of Comd 221 Inf Bde.
