Environmentally-conscious 221 Brigade troops of the 22 Infantry Division under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) launched a coastal belt cleaning project on Thursday (20) in Manayaweli coastal area Trincomalee which remained highly polluted due to heaps of discarded wrappers, empty beer cans and polythene waste.
General Officer Commanding 22 Infantry Division Major General C D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu initiated this programme and Commander 221 Brigade, Brigadier W P Kariyawasam coordinated the programme.
Troops belongs to 6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 2 (V) Gajaba Rejiment carried out this programme with the participation of civil person in the area.
