22 DIVISION CONTRIBUTES TO TRINCOMALEE INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

22 Division extended its best assistance to the District Secretariat Trincomalee for the conduct of the provincial commemoration of the 71st Independence Day in Trincomalee.

The ceremony commenced with the Governor of the Eastern Province Dr. M L A M Hisbullah hoisting the National Flag. 30 students from five schools in Trincomalee sang the National Anthem. Then, a two minute silence was observed in memory of all the Patriots and War Heroes who scarified their lives for the noble cause of defending the freedom, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Motherland.

Around 150 personnel representing Army, Navy, Air force, Civil Security Department participated in the parade. More than six hundred students representing 10 schools of Trincomalee area dressed in colourful attire accorded their salute to the Hon. Governor of the Eastern Province.

Religious Dignitaries, Hon Imran Mahroff MP for Trincomalee District, Chief Secretary of Eastern Provincial Council Mr. DMS Abayagunawardana, Distrct Secretary of Trincomalee Mr. NAA Pushpha Kumara, General Officer Commanding 22 Division Major General Nevil Weerasinghe, DIG - Trincomalee Mr. Nimal Perera, Commander 221 Brigade - Brigadier DPU Gunasekara , Commander 224 Brigade - Colonel EAP Ediriweera, Heads of the Provincial and District Departments, Senior Officers from Tri Service, Police and civil Defense force and large gathering of distinguished invites were present at the ceremony.
