The annual Poson Perahera of Jayasumanarama Maha Viharaya in Trincomalee was held on 28 and 29 June on a grand scale with a number of religious activities under the patronage of the Chief Incumbent Ven Trincomalee Gnanakirthi Thero. With the guidance of the General Officer Commanding -22 Division Major General Aruna Jayasekara, troops extended their fullest support to organize this event.
The procession commenced after placing the Sacred Casket (Karaduwa) on a caparisoned elephant by the Chief Incumbent Ven Trincomalee Gnanakirthi Thero before being paraded in the streets incorporated with traditional dance forms of Hill-country“ Low-country and Sabaragamuwa. Under command Brigades and Battalions of 22 Division displayed a verity of multi-coloured 15 lanterns at temple premises.
Religious Dignitaries“ Chief Secretary of Eastern Provincial Council Mr. DMS Abeygunawardhana“ General Officer Commanding 22 Division Major General Aruna Jayasekara “ DIG Trincomalee“ Mr. Nimal Perera“ Heads of the Provincial and District Departments“ Senior Officers from Tri - Services, Police and Civil Security Department and a large gathering of distinguished invitees attended the Poson arrangements.
