20TH BATTALION OF THE GAJABA REGIMENT’S FACILITATION OF DRY-RATION AID DISTRIBUTION TO CIVILIANS AFFECTED BY DISASTER IMPACTS

In response to the emergency disaster situation within the area of responsibility, the 20th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment organised and conducted a community-oriented humanitarian initiative on 07 December 2025. The programme involved the distribution of dry-ration packs, each valued at Rs. 5,000.00, to civilians residing in Shanthipura Village who were adversely affected by the disaster.

This initiative was undertaken on the direction of the General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, and the Commander, 221 Infantry Brigade. Their leadership and strategic guidance provided the framework within which the programme was planned and executed.

The humanitarian effort was further supported through the generous financial contribution of approximately Rs. 125,000.00 provided by Prof. SubhashinieSenadheera, Dr. WaruniSenadheera, Dr. BhagyaSenadheera, Mr. SPGC Senadheera and Mrs. EpaSenavirathna. Their sponsorship enabled the timely provision of essential supplies to the civilians affected by the disaster.

The programme was conducted under the direct supervision and guidance of the Commanding Officer of the 20th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel RohanaEkanayake RWP RSP psc GR. Officers and other ranks of the unit provided labour support, deploying a contingent of 03 × 10 personnel to ensure the effective and efficient execution of the community welfare initiative.
