Around 0550 hrs on 01st October 2023, a fire broke out in the drug store and laboratory building of Thabalagamuwa Divisional Hospital. Troops of 15 SLLI were able to assist in mitigating the fire that broke out in the hospital drug store building with the support of police, fire fighting brigade and civilians in the area.
With the guidance given by the General Officer Commanding 22 Infantry Division and the Commander 223 Infantry Brigade, the Commanding Officer of the 15thSri Lanka Light Infantry was given the fullest cooperation to mitigate the fire. More than 65 troops were engaged to extinguish the fire in numerous ways.
Further, the fire and rescue unit of Trincomalee as well as the 30 police personnel from the Thabalagamuwa police station gave their support to control the fire. In addition, as the fire was raging, the Army troops worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. Finally, their efforts combined with those of the firefighters, ensured that the fire was brought under control, minimizing the damage caused to the drug store laboratory building and the surrounding areas. No, personal damages were reported.
The reasons for the fire are still not discovered and further investigation is being carried out by the Thabalagamuwa police station.
